Acetal is one of a number of engineering plastics which can be supplied in rod form. Sometimes these are referred to as plastic shafting. Acetal rod is usually supplied
much larger than the nominal size. For example, a 50mm diameter rod can be up to 51mm diameter or more.
Engineering plastics are not meant to be used with precision ground bearings, but can be turned to fairly accurate tolerances
for use as shafting in less critical applications. As always, you should consult with an engineer in any crital applications.
Acetal is also known as POM. Acetal is a widely used rigid engineering plastic. It is highly resistant to fatigue and cracking and
resistant to many solvents. It has a low coefficient of friction and remains stable
in reasonably high temperatures, making it an excellent choice for bushes and bearings.
